Perth, October 19 (IND vs AUS 1st ODI Highlights 2025): India’s 2025 ODI campaign got off to a disappointing start as Australia defeated India by seven wickets in the first One Day International at Perth Stadium.
Senior players Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma struggled on their return, while the Australian pace attack dominated from start to finish in a rain-affected match reduced to 26 overs per side.
Batting first, India could only manage 136 for 9 in 26 overs. In reply, Australia chased the revised target of 131 in 21.1 overs, taking a 1–0 lead in the three-match ODI series.
“We were a bit rusty with the bat. Conditions were tricky after the rain, but that’s no excuse — we needed to show better intent. Credit to Australia, they bowled in the right areas and made us work for every run.”
— India Captain

Kohli Duck Out and Rohit Fail to Fire
All eyes were on India’s experienced duo, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, both returning to the ODI setup after a break. But their comebacks didn’t go as planned — Rohit scored only 8 runs, while Kohli fell for a duck, edging a delivery from Josh Hazlewood early in his innings.
KL Rahul Fights Alone
KL Rahul once again stood tall amid the chaos, scoring a composed 38 runs to ensure India crossed the 100-run mark. He played with discipline and calm, countering the swing and bounce that troubled most others. However, the lack of support from the middle and lower order meant India finished with a below-par total.

Hardik Pandya (22) and Ravindra Jadeja (17) contributed brief cameos, but neither could push the score beyond respectability. The Australian pacers exploited the lively Perth surface brilliantly, led by Josh Hazlewood (3/24) and Pat Cummins (2/27).
Australia Cruise in the Chase
Chasing 131 for victory, Australia never looked under pressure. Captain Mitchell Marsh led from the front with a fluent 47 off 45 balls, while Marnus Labuschagne anchored the innings with an unbeaten 33.
